Horse Fair 2007
Coupar Angus celebrated a piece of its rich heritage and also its current community, on Saturday with the hugely popular Horse Fair. The event, only in its second year, attracted hundreds of spectators to line the streets of Coupar Angus to watch the parade, led by the Coupar Angus Pipe Band. The parade was larger than last years with more Clydesdale Horses, community groups and vintage vehicles taking part.
The parade paused briefly for TV personality Lorraine Kelly to present prizes to the two competition winners: Sadie Ford for best hobby horse and Tess Picken, best homemade and decorated gingerbread horse.
The day also included community events in the Abbey Church Hall and a Craft Fair in the Town Hall, with the additional attractions this year of a display of Horse breeds on the Coupar Angus common by the Horseways organisation and a sell out family ceilidh in the Town Hall in the evening
This hugely successful day organised this year by 2 members of the Community Council with volunteer community support was initiated to allow the community to participate in the regeneration of the town. Locally this regeneration is being led by the Coupar Angus Regeneration Trust (CART) who is working with Perth & Kinross Council in implementing the Heritage lottery Fund award of £880,000 for the restoration of buildings within the town centre conservation area
The organisers would like to build on this years success and would ask that anyone who would like to volunteer for next years event or has suggestions for improvements contact them. The group can be contacted through Rona McKinnon on 01828 628865 or by handing in contact details or comments to the CART office.
