The public had an opportunity to discuss community issues with Inspector Ged Fitzpatrick and East Perthshire Neighbourhood Watch Association (EPNWA) at the Association’s latest meeting in Alyth’s Burnside Court Lounge on Wednesday 15 th June. A new watch in Alyth was organised and attendees received free newsletters, power down adaptors, low energy bulbs, and medical fridge bottles.
Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever. Behind it lies a simple idea, and a central value shared by millions of people around the country: getting together with your neighbours to take action to cut local crime. Members’ involvement can be as little or as much as they wish. Joining a ‘watch’ (streets or areas which have NHW members) helps and reassures those who live in fear of crime. It also encourages neighbourliness and closer communities, and often cuts crime and the opportunities for crime.
EPNWA encompasses nearly 60 active watches and there are many benefits of joining or starting up a scheme in your area, including a discount in your house insurance. Don’t sit back and accept problems in your area. Together we can solve crime and anti-social behaviour in your area and strengthen your area’s strength of community. EPNWA operates an informal neighbourhood watch, with no lengthy meetings, AGMs, or other formalities. Joining this organisation is very easy by contacting Tayside Police, Community Safety on 0300 111 2222. The next public meeting will be in Meigle’s Church Hall on Thursday 11 th August at 7pm. All welcome.
